We’re delighted to introduce a new series to Georgian Regency Interiors called ‘In Conversation’ as a way of introducing you to some of the brands and suppliers that we work with at Etons of Bath.

Our first ‘In Conversation’ is with Samuel Heath, a company that have manufactured high quality brassware, bathroom, door and window fittings in their factory in the heart of England for almost 200 years.

David Pick, Managing Director, and Adam Daniels, Head of Design for Samuel Heath, kindly took the time to talk with Georgian Regency Interiors about the brand and how their range is perfect for Regency and Georgian homes and properties.

First up in conversation with is Managing Director David Pick.

It would be great if you could tell Georgian Regency Interiors more about Samuel Heath.

We are proud to have supplied our products to some of the finest residences, hotels and yachts around the world. The Samuel Heath legacy is built on a foundation of knowledge and expertise that enables us to sculpt the purest brass into highly desirable items.  Each piece is made using a combination of time honoured craftsmanship and the latest in design and technology.”

From Samuel Heath’s perspective what are the most important aspects to consider when planning for a Georgian bathroom?

First and foremost, ensure you are designing the space so that you are making the very best use of the original features, particularly the windows and any coving detailing.  Situating a basin below a window can work very well and can create and beautiful centrepiece for the room.

Which Samuel Heath designs/ ranges capture traditional Georgian style and why

Samuel Heath’s Fairfield collection is most suited to a Georgian style.  While the collection is a balanced combination of the diverse formal design influences of the Arts and Crafts and Aesthetic movements which flourished between 1880 and 1910, this collection is most suited to a period property, particularly Georgian.    The careful proportioning of Fairfield also reflects the qualities inspired by the era whilst design options are enhanced by a choice of cross-top controls or levers available in crystal, wood, ceramic or metal.  There are also 7 stunning finishes to choose from.

What accessories add character and charm to bathrooms in Georgian properties?

The extra details can make all the difference.  Complementary accessories (whether they be freestanding or wall mounted), vases on window sills, towels, soaps, and beautiful framed prints can really finish off the room.

What are the most common brassware errors people make when planning a bathroom?

The main thing to consider is how much prominence you would like the brassware to have and if you want to go for a classic finish (such as Antique Gold or Polished Nickel) or something more striking such as one of our bronze options or non-lacquered brass, which develops its own natural patina over time.

Aside from the standard chrome finish what are the finishes in your range that are most appropriate to a Georgian property?

Polished nickel and Antique Gold would work very well here.  Our elegant non-lacquered brass is a recent addition to our portfolio of finishes and build on the current desire for warm metal tones in interiors.  The brass components are hand polished to product a high shine, without plating or lacquer.  Leaving the brass untreated means that through repeated use and exposure the metal will react to moisture and the oils naturally occurring on your hands to develop a distinctive patina.  The appearance of each piece will evolve over time; daily use will imbue each fixture with its own individual warmth and character.  The beauty of raw brass is that it can be polished, returning it to its pristine state if so desired.

How much can you adapt your range to create bespoke elements and finishes?

We can look at different lever and cross top options, as well as bespoke finishes if and where possible. However, with 7 finishes to choose from and a wide selection of levers and cross tops, the possibilities are endless!
